I’m going to write this post before Ted gets to it. We’ve been asked about our other pets, as anyone who knows us, knows we have a number of them. Then I realized that we’ve got pictures of Gobo and of Fenchurch but none of Greta. Which really just says a lot about us.

We used to have caged animals. I had a African Pygmy Hedgehog named Harley. She was great. Ted had two Guniea Pigs, Lucy and Soo. Harley died of pancreatic cancer (seriously) and the girls (that’s what we referred to them as) died within a few months of each other, likely of old age. Very sad really. But we decided (ok, maybe it was me, but Ted didn’t seem to disagree) that having caged animals didn’t really seem fair. Even though we took good care of them they really should not be caged up like that, especially Hedgehogs who lived longer in the wild than in captivity. That can’t be a good sign.

We got our first kitten about a year after I got Harley. It was just before we bought our condo (where we lived before the ‘dump’). I had a job interview at an animal hospital and I figured I didn’t have the heart to work there because I ended up taking one of the kittens that had been abandoned (ie, her pregnant Mom had been left on the doorstep). She was so tiny and sweet, I had to give her a good home. So Greta was our first cat, the only only that was not abused as a baby and sent to us all traumatized and scared. (Originally both Gobo and Fenchurch came from unknown and obviously bad places, and it shows) What is really strange is that even though Gobo and Fenchurch are scared all the time, jumpy and all around freaked out, Greta is the strangest cat ever. She is just weird, lovely, but weird. So apparently we take abused animals, calm and relax them into loving affectionate pets but make healthy happy animals into big wierdos… ok, so she’s just like us…

So anyway, this whole post was just to do Greta justice and get her picture on the site!
